Xin Yi (Cindy) Tan served over three years as a Geospatial Intelligence Analyst with the U.S. Army. She is an expert in the use of ArcGIS and open-source information to help decision makers visualize geographic data. Her work made significant contributions to allied understanding of the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian war.
Cindy holds a B.S. in Geological Science from University of California, Santa Barbara. During her studies, she completed a year-long exchange program at the National University of Singapore as a Gilman Scholar, and worked abroad at Osaka University as a researcher in the FrontierLab program. She presented her research findings at the 2017 Thermo Fisher Scientific EDS/XPS Users Forum in Tokyo and the 2017 American Geophysical Union Fall Meeting in New Orleans.
Cindy will be attending Columbia University next year to pursue her Masters in International Affairs. Her policy concentration will be in Energy and Environment in East Asia. She speaks Mandarin Chinese and is learning Japanese.
